Thank you to all those Countrywide who supported BBC, Local Radio and BTO by turning up to collect and make the birdboxes which hopefully are going up all over gardens and wildlife areas as soon as, and if you did come along to Hereford and see us at Maylords, don't forget when asked I'm a six foot blonde, please register with BTO so then can then track who or what is living in your house ! If you weren't able to have a bird box from us and you have an existing one in your garden, that can be registered too - good luck.
I have left mine as a Tit box, but as we have Woodpeckers, I am putting a metal plate around the hole to protect it, and mine is going up this weekend as already activity what with the Sunshine - you never know, we might be lucky.
One thing that did come out of Hereford were questions about birds of prey seen in the city, and Paul Tomkins from Queenswood Country Park was on hand with advice. What had been seen with it's breakfast in the garden of a city semi detached ? A Female Goshawk, although I was able to share my sighting of 5 Buzzards circling above Hedgebottom the previous day - thank goodness I didn't put my washing out !
Other sightings at home was the reappearance of the Deer, Munctjack, just the one very timid in a nearby copse, and all the snow we've had (and thank you for those who were listening on Friday 9th Feb to BBC H&W as I broadcast until midnight), the footprints were fantastic to see, definitely Badger, Fox and a Border Collie - do look at the pictures of home in the snow - I couldn't get home for 2 nights as we had experienced 10 inches of it.
Just one more thought before I front The Auction of Promises for Forest Dog Rescue in Stourport, we had a text from a listener yesterday reporting frog spawn in his pond - anyone else ?
