Thursday 2 October
Mixed emotions today as we lost one of our hens but gained two Highland Cows.
Don't know why we lost 'Henny' just one of those things I guess. You don't know what's happened to them when they've spent a whole year in a battery cage, but at least she had three full months with the sun on her back, scratching in the dust and generally having a great time. I have to say feeling quite sad about it as I've never lost a hen before, just hope it's a long time until I lose another one.
Good news though today as 'Blossom' and 'Ruby' arrived at lunchtime. They have certainly been well looked after and were very relaxed and content when I went to look at them just before dark. All the hard work on our two acre field has paid off as now we have the two most beautiful creatures living in it and already they're causing quite a stir judging by the amount of people stopping and having a look - I'll have to start charging!
Huge thank you to Angela and Duncan from 'Gilden Vale Fold' in Herefordshire, not only for allowing us to have them but for bringing them over. A lovely couple who you may see as they do quite a bit of showing, so next year when you're at a show look out for them, and maybe me if I learn how to use a comb properly but judging by my hair today I need a bit of practice on myself first.
