Saturday 31 October

There's me thinking that this weekend was going to be wet and miserable so I could then watch the last Grand Prix of the season guilt free without feeling I should be outside doing something, and what happens this morning? gorgeous sunshine and warm!
I'm currently sporting a black eye as well so just in time for Halloween, we walked the Highland cows up the road again and somehow ended up wearing a horn! Funnily enough it's the subject of my latest column in this months Herefordshire & Shropshire Life which is out now.

We now have next doors' hens with us having picked them up yesterday, so six of the most beautiful examples of rare breeds you have ever seen, and then you've got our four ex battery hens! So far so good with the introductions, although we're doing it slowly so at the moment they can see each other through the netting and each group have their own home and run space, then hopefully in a fortnight they'll be together.

Nice to have a weekend off for a change, having said that, last weekend working with the rather gorgeous Gino D'Acampo was definitely not a chore. What is it with Italian men, do they learn all that charm at school do you reckon? What was funny was seeing the change in some of the fellas who were looking after our Theatre at The Herefordshire Food Festival, they became much more relaxed and picking up some Italian phrases, I did mention to Glyn that it would be nice if he could take on some of the Italian ways to which all I got was him repeating the word 'pasta' over and over again!
It was the first time I'd played a role in the award ceremony the night before and thoroughly enjoyed hosting the event alongside Sir Ben Gill, former President of the National Farmers Union. Well done to all the local producers who were there, and it was nice to catch up with a few old faces.

Back to the weekend then, in between the racing Glyn is going to finish the log store he's been building and alongside playing referee to a team of hens, there seems to be quite a lot of gardening!
