A true sign that Spring has arrived is the sight if daffodils in full bloom. Here at Hedgebottom Home we're adding more bulbs each year.
While Mother Nature is busy with the spring flowers, daffodils, tulips etc she is also at work in rivers and ponds.
Here at Hedgebottom Home there is a small pond (about 8' x 5') constructed using a liner and surrounded by stones from a derelict outbuilding.
During Autumn you'll need to keep the water free from fallen leaves, they not only settle to the bottom of the pond and begin to decay, but clog up the intake filter of any water pump you may have fitted. Believe us when we say scoop the fallen leaves off the surface of the water as soon as you can, rotting leaves and a blocked pump aren't a pretty sight... ...nor odour.
Stick with it and you'll see results (like the photo above) with plants thriving.
Meanwhile in April look under the surface and if you're patient, some would say lucky too, you should see some tadpoles. Take care not to disturb the water and monitor the level too.
Frogs are timid creatures but look slowly around your pond, again being patient, and there may just be one or two sitting quietly soaking up any Springtime sunshine.
